Vemos a cultura moderna a trabalhar o corpo intelectual (e.g. escola) e o corpo físico (e.g. desporto). As práticas espirituais trabalham os corpos energéticos e arquétipicos (vulgo corpo espiritual). Falta algo!
”Our ability to feel and emote what we feel is perhaps one of the most powerful, as well as one of the most hopeful and promising forces in our lives. It’s the power of our emotions that enables us to appreciate the beauty of an evening sunset on a beach, a morning walk in a growing forest, and the sexual chemistry that magnetically attracts us to others. Our emotions also have a direct relationship to the empathy that we may have for others, including our enemies. It’s our empathy for the lives, family, and suffering of those we find ourselves in conflict with that often leads to the negotiations that make peace possible.
Recent discoveries in modern science now add to a growing body of evidence suggesting that our ability to experience emotion in the presence of beauty is more than simply a pleasurable experience; it’s a very real and transformative power. Our experience of beauty, for example, and the emotion that beauty elicits within us, is a direct, sensual, and life-altering experience.
We humans are believed to be the only species of life with the capacity to perceive beauty in the world around us, as well as to seek it out in our everyday lives. It’s through our experience of beauty that we’re given the power to change the sensations we feel in our bodies. Our feelings, in their turn, are directly linked to the way neurons throughout our body “wire” (connect) and “fire” (activate), thus altering the chemistry of our cells and organs. Beauty has the power to change our individual lives, and it’s no exaggeration to say that the same beauty that changes our lives has the power to change our world!
The key to allowing emotions to alter our perceptions and behavior is that we must choose to look beyond the hurt, pain, and suffering that we’re presented with in the moment to recognize the beauty that already exists in all things. Only then will we have unleashed the power that the choice of beauty holds for our lives. And to do so requires the evolution and honing of the power of emotion. Cook sums this up beautifully. “In order to be worth living in, the future needs to be more, rather than less, emotional.”
